For the love of Moses must it be so damn hard?

Just a brief observation:

I have employer provided insurance and my kids have insurance provided by their step-mom….however, both do not cover everything so we have “Medicaid” aka “Washington Apple” as our secondary. I just received our renewal packet and a lengthy application, in English. The instructions say to do it online because it’s faster and easier. Mind you, it says this in English.

So I go online because I have that privilege and there is an option for Spanish.

Cool thus far, everyone knows that people in Washington ONLY speak English or Spanish. Duh.

I go through the damn lengthy process where I have to answer some tax questions that confuse even me, because of the verbiage. Now, I consider myself to be a pretty savvy person, masters degree and all….but please don’t ask me about my filing status as it relates to the amount of student loan debt or other deductions I might itemize….direct all such questions to Turbo Tax, thanks and goodbye…

I digress.

I finally get to the end and they can’t process it because of an “error code 3079.”

I call the fancy number and sit on hold forever because (lucky me) I have the privilege of unlimited minutes. I finally get a person, a nice well spoken person named Tracy who figures out the problem (I put “$0” as my personal insurance cost through my employer, which is the truth; but the website requires me to lie and say it costs me a $1, then electronically sign something that says I swear under threat of perjury that everything I put is truthful, you know whatever…ANOMIE) and BAM everything is better and my decision is immediate. Yay! We have health care totally covered in case I need to get me some birth control and abortions! (cause what else could a 34 year old divorced woman need it for?)

Now what if I can’t read?
What if I can’t speak English or Spanish?
What if I don’t have an address to send the packet to?
What if I can read, but for fun let’s say I read at a say 6th grade reading level, but do not understand the tax language?
What if I do not have a computer?
Can’t get to a library?
Can’t use a computer?
Have no interwebs?
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.

Oh sure, I know some of you are going to say, well there are people to help! Options! Go to the social services office! Some, like my pal Daniel, will probably go on some rant and tirade that makes me question why we are friends about poverty and education and “woe is the poor white male American,” but seriously.

Do there have to be so many barriers to getting health care that is MEANT for people in poverty?

With barriers already?

For real?

What happened to this magical Obamacare y’all were so scared of making it so easy for those lazy immigrants to come steal your insurance and jobs?

For fraks sakes.

(*&*&%&%$%$#@&)((*()_

For fucks sake.

oh the shame, the SHAME!

oh the shame, the SHAME!

As this is the first year that I am independently purchasing my kid’s school supplies, clothes, and general new school year BS without the aid of my student loans, suffice it to say things are rather lean…. So I told them to go through the first week with minimal supplies and figure out what they actually need rather than me just spending asinine amounts of money on things the Manchild will lose and the Girlchild will not use and I will just purchase the needed stuff later…

The Girlchild apparently made an editorial comment about this at a friend’s house so the friend’s mom bought her some supplies. DOH!

Way to make me feel like shite. YAY!

So I texted the girl’s mom to tell her thank you and explain my thought process rather than letting her think I was just a poor muthatrucka…I don’t think she believed me.

Then, as I am now an indentured servant with $23478398475845 in student loan debt to Sallie Mae (and considering the fact that my beautiful paid off car was accidentally killed because I forgot about the &*^*^%^* timing belt which caused me to need to buy a new car and have a car payment)…. I have NO effing expendable cash…. So I am down to using credit cards to buy groceries. Yay.

I go to Winco to buy groceries, spend an hour shopping, unloading, ringing up, and DOH!

Winco doesn’t take credit cards.

The shame, the shame.

F**k me.

Someday I will have a really awesome job with a really awesome salary. Until then, I am a poor muthatrucka. White person poor, but poor all the same. Relativity boys and girls, relativity.

Um, leave the 99% out of it!

I have tried very hard to stay out of the whole “occupy” conversation. When they occupied the parks, I heard the arguments about a utopian society being created before our eyes, the beginning of a revolution, this that and whatever.

But it fell apart. The homeless moved in, some who have REAL LIFE mental health issues, addiction issues, not to mention other health issues. Combined with the overall antiestablishment tones and emotions, drugs, wannabe anarchist temperaments, V for Vendetta and the 5th of November, pent up anger over the “resolved” recession it was a recipe for disaster. And it was. Rapes, unnoticed deaths, clashes, etc. And the message was……

I’m still not sure. We are poor you are not, give us some money? I don’t know. I think I get what they were going toward….I understand class war. I understand what the people who are asked on camera are talking about, the spokespeople get it, mostly…But what about the rest of the groupthinking masses?

What about the parks? Who is going to pay to fix them? US

What about the damage? Who is going to fix them? US

The occupiers say, “…We trashed it! Pay us to fix it and clean it up!”

Seriously? That circular logic work for you very often? Are you fu*king kidding me?

I digress.

What about the 99% who are losing their jobs or being prevented from doing it while you create a 1960’s esque story to tell your grandkids?

Occupy Pdx RIGHT NOW is blocking the Portland Ports, and even more of the west cost ports, all the way up to Alaska. Um, these are longshoremen, truckers, construction workers, dock workers, welders, etc. NOT CORPORATE CRONIES! Leave the unions alone. Leave the middle class people alone. F**K

Preventing the working class from working hurts the working class, not the corporate greed. Think about it.
